Communicating Science to the Public: A Filmmaker’s Perspective

January 31, 2012

February 2, 2012
3:30 pmto5:00 pm

This workshop is open to all TerreWEB members and associates (faculty and students).

Thursday February 2, 2012 3:30 – 5:00 pm

Location: Rm. 350, MacMillan Building (2357 Main Mall)

This workshop will provide TerreWEB students and faculty the opportunity to speak directly with a professional communicator of science, filmmaker Mark Terry. Mr. Terry is an experienced storyteller of science and global change via various channels, using conventional as well as novel communication tools. He is an active user of integrating online and social media outlets to help share and communicate his work. Some elements that he will discuss with us include:

o The process of audience identification,

o The process of selection of the expert(s) with which to team,

o The dual objective of maintaining credibility of the science while capturing and sustaining interest, and

o Technical considerations regarding sound bites, editing scientific content, conducting interviews, etc.

We look forward to seeing you there!
