Klaudia Ziemblinska bio

I am a PhD student at Poznan University of Life Sciences (Meteorology Department) in Poland with the background in meteorology and the atmosphere physic concerning turbulent mass and energy flows. Currently I work on gas exchange between forest ecosystem and the atmosphere using the eddy covariance technique. Since last year I am a Principal Investigator of a new measuring station located in the area damaged by tornado in northern Poland (if you are curious search for: http://www.up.poznan.pl/ka/TR_www.htm). In my “scientific future” I would like to find out how extreme events influence/change carbon balance in a pine forest, which is the most common forest type in Poland. In the summer 2014 I spend 3 wonderful months doing my Internship in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems supervised by Prof. T.A. Black. I was mainly aiming at building a network with scientist working at UBC- especially young researchers, regarding issues of climate change -in particular extreme climatic events impacts on forest ecosystem. I am strongly convinced that my visit in Vancouver helped me already to achieve short and long-term career goals. Besides professional perspective I have great personal experiences- I fell in love with Vancouver! – the environment, wide range of sport activities and what is the most important, amazing, friendly, always smiling people! I strongly recommend such kind of student exchange to everyone as a great opportunity of strengthening professional skills and having unforgettable memories.
